Keywords on the meta tags
Keywords at the meta tags used to have a lot of influence (the prehistoric internet period…) in the way search engines place their site rankings. Meta keyword tags were a great little tool for the search engines to use to help them determine how to rank sites in their search results. When the engines’ databases were small, this meta tag was a quick, easy method to help decide which keywords might be important on a site.
But not anymore, especially now is 2007. Google definitely does not look into keywords at the meta tags. There are discussions out there that suggest Yahoo and MSN search engines still place some points in the meta tag keywords. Anyone can confirm this?
What really matter is this:
1. Title tag
2. Description Meta Tag (It’s what people see in the SERP - try forming a natural sentence with your keywords for this section.)
As for your keyword tag, you just need to a few keywords to it. Usually I put no more than ten. I know it’s not going to help very much, however, there is always this little feeling that one day search engines will suddenly love them again. But do not overdo it and don’t repeat the keywords there.
