There is a major computer fair (Sitex 2008, location:Expo Hall 5 & 6) going on in the town this weekend. If you were a foreign visitor in Singapore this weekend, remember to go to check this IT show out as I promise you there will be lots and lots of IT gadgets going for very low prices!

I was there to check it out on Friday night and i think it was terribly crowded. There was really a lot of IT shoppers or casual onlookers of latest IT and computer products. Amidst this media talk of global recession, it is still good to see so many people crowding the exhibition halls.

As usually, most of the products nowadays are lifestyle IT products. Especially cheap are the LCD televisions, and it was really hard to resist such gadgets at such a low price. For example, I saw that Sharp Aquos LCD television 32″ goes for only S$699.00! I am sure it will be selling like hotcakes.

The trend from what I see is the growing popularity of “netbook“, a concept started by Asus EeePC, which sells at only $398 for its low end model. So it will no longer be surprising that you will see your friend online at MSN all the time because he or she is connected even when they are outside!

For me, a 90 minute stroll in the crowd yielded a brand new Maxtor 250G external hard disk. It sold for only $109.00. I also bought a 160G model for a friend and that costs only $79.00 which is about $0.49 a gigabyte. In fact I heard the price has dropped the day after! Expect prices to tumble even more next year…

On last day, I again dashed down to Sitex on the last couple of hours before it ended. I was there to specially buy for a friend who missed out on this show as he was overseas for Maxtor external hard disk. The prizes of this external storage device has once again fallen on the last day. Finally I bought the 320B model for only $119! At the same time, I also bought a silver FujiFilm FinePix F100fd for $549.
