Mount Kinabalu Trip - Day 2 (Part 2)
Continuing from Part 1 of the day 2 of the trip…Every 0.5km or so, there would have a little signboard showing the distance we had covered. When I saw one, I told myself it was a mini accomplishment. I was sure all of us feel the same too.
As we trekked further up, we could glimpse more of the summits. It certainly looked magnificent! Petals of clouds covered the upper echelons of the mountains, and I was really captivated. It was the first time I was in such a high altitude anywhere in Earth so far.
There was toilet besides every rest huts so that trekkers did not have to worry about relieving themselves as you know, really a lot of liquid was consumed as it was good to keep hydrated. The toilets had workable flushing systems and the water came from a black thin pipe somewhere from the summit I guess….. So you can see that it was not advisable to drink the water from these tapes. If there is a need, bring the water treatment tablets with you to treat the water before you drink it. I tried the treated water, and it tasted a bit like medicated water, but I just didn’t care too much of the taste as I had run out of water by the time we reach the 4km mark.
The Marsilau trail was a very scenic route according to our mountain guides. It certainly was. Along the way, we saw wild orchids, strange ferns, rottan plants, bright pinkish flowers, exotic balsams, bonsai-style trees, mini streams, waterfalls, bridges, and of course those enchanting clouds at the far side. I didn’t see any wild animals although I could hear loud melodic chirps of the birds and hooting voices of the orang utan.
The trail suddenly tapered downhills to under 2km mark at after the 3km stage. Slowly the fatigue set in to everyone of us. After passing by a longer wooden bridge with a beautiful waterfall and stream besides it, the guide told us, “from here, it is all uphill”…..
