This is one activity you can never stop..
Online traffic is the life pulse of every internet businesses and websites without high traffic rate result in low conversion rate for sales as there is not enough traffic to sustain it. I admit this blog’s traffic is not high too. I’ll be very excited if I can get more than 50 unique hits per day, just to be frank with you. However, like money, no webmasters will be satisfied by the amount of traffic received all the time and they are constantly trying out ways to improve that.
So, I consider myself still as a newbie and in this arena, there are simply too much knowledge to learn, hence there is great deal of challenge.
Here’s my request: i you are also starting out, and have things to share, why not drop me some lines in the comments? I’d really appreciate a lot as that’s one good way to upkeep the momentum. Thanks.
Going back to the first sentence about website traffic. To attract more of that, there is a pressing need to advertise the website to bring in more traffic from different sources.
One normal way is to do paid advertisement, like banner ads which are the most traditional way of online advertisement. I think banners are not that effective anymore due to the existences of ad blockers software. However never say never in this line, for example, I’m still seeing a lot of attractive banner ads in FaceBook and MySpace. So do try it and readjust the strategy.
Now the trend is geared towards pay per click which is a billion dollar industry Here you bid for keyword terms. The more you pay for your keyword biddings, the more chances of your adverts showing up in high positions of the search engines. So you can imagine the price of the adverts for some very profitable and top paying keywords like insurance, medicine, and mortgages.
Do not forget about the offline channels too. Of course these refer to media like newspapers, magazines, printed brochures, business cards, and anything under the sun to bring your message across for you to conjure up.
If you think advertising needs a lot of money (which small players are always feeling the squeeze for that), do not worry. There are actually some free advertising channels which you can tap on. These include:
1. Online classified websites which have a lot of participations. Every region has its own favorite online classified websites so just search around and you’ll find it to promote your business.
2. Forums. These are usually packaged together with classified sites. Check out the review sections of the forums and if you have anything to share, do share it with community and end it with your advertisement at the end of your post. Do not that some forums are banning signature advertisements so do check out its guidelines before you post.
3. Link partners. Take initiative to talk to another webmasters who are in the same niche as you to see whether you can work out something between you and him. It is also called joint venture and many experts are doing that to increase their earnings and exposure. It’s a win-win situation for both parties if do well.
4. Article marketing. It’s getting very popular now and it seems everyone knows about sites like ezinearticles.com. Yea, write good articles about your specialization and end with your URL in the bio section of the article.
5. e-Books. Write and give away e-Books for free and include your website URL in the e-Books. If the e-Books really touch on the hot core of the niche, like tips or advices, it will go viral as it really plugs what the community is looking for.
6. Last but not least, word of mouth advertising by sharing your online business with people around you whenever you can. People will be keen to know about you, especially when you are getting some results.
Here are some of the ways you can advertise and expose your online businesses. So try them out yourself and see which way(s) suit you the best.
I wish you all the best.
Cheers.
