Email Warden helps to combat spams
I’m sure almost everyone receives some sort of spams in your email inbox. In some cases, the email inbox can be swarmed by those annoying emails which blast things like viagra, suspicious cash scams, or lottery winnings. I have my fair share of such spams and most of the time they go to the “junk” folder but they do go into inbox undetected and it’s extremely annoying as I need to spend time to clear them.
There are always commercial spam filters but you need to spend money to buy them. So to fight them back, you can use this free tool called Email Warden which is compatible as a tool bar in IE or Firefox. This is how Email Warden works:
Email Warden monitors the web sites you go to and generates a disposable email address for that specific web site (by clicking on the email box on the Email Warden toolbar). Any emails sent back to the disposable email address will automatically forward to the real email address you entered into Email Warden’s setup. Information about the site will be included as a header in the email. You are allowed to send us feedback about that web site so that we can rate the site according to its spam risk. The more Email Warden users, the better our ratings become. As you visit sites with high feedback ratings from our user base, our rating system increases from green to red. Green would mean that they are most likely not an email seller according to Email Warden users, while red ratings mean the site is a definite email seller and it would be a good idea to stay away.
So it is effectively a community spam reporting system so the more users know and use it, the better spams can be combated.
When you install Email Warden, you can choose an email of yours that’s to be guarded. This can be changed later on. So let say when you come to a site and it asks for your registration, simply click on the toolbar for “Click for Email Alias” and a random email account with like “heslgesifjrock43452@emailwarden.com” will be generated. This email is linked to your guarded email address.
So your registration info will be forwarded to your guarded email account but there will be an attached Email Warden header that tells you the spam source. This info tells you where the spam is coming from. If you want to combat this spam email, click on the link inside this header and it will direct you to the page to confirm it as spam.
So in effect, the more people report it, the better and accurate it is.
